Mini Laptops For Gaming

Like most other devices, laptops too can be included in various categories and types and can be classified based on size, purpose and power. On exactly the opposite sides of the scale you'll find the large desktop replacement computer and the tiny netbook that offers great portability. Needless to say, these two types of laptops were up until now made for completely different types of users and had nothing in common except for the form factor and the fact that they are both computers. Desktop replacements generally target either the gamer or the user who spends a lot of time with graphics/audio/video editing software. Bigger shell means more space means better technology (generally). Netbooks on the other hand are meant to suit the needs of the basic users. You'll see them often on a table in cafes or the closest McDonalds. You'll notice how colorful, round and shiny they are and you'll soon understand that to an extent they're sometimes even used for accessorizing and less for the processing part.

Well, in February this year, Alienware, the very popular gaming laptop and desktop company, managed to do something quite impressive for most of us people that are interested in technology and gadgetry. Throughout the history of the company, their laptops managed to be everything from powerful to flashy, well designed or reliable, but one thing they never managed to be was small and compact. Probably realizing this at a point, the company decided to come up with an ultraportable.

Alienware engineers eventually admitted that they've been working at this project for quite a few years. But no one really expected to finally see a mini laptop with a 11 inch screen that can handle the latest games. And so, Alienwre finally released the M11x. At first glance the M11x mini laptops for gaming look like your regular netbook with a more serious and black outer shell. But don't be fooled because you'll find the loch ness monster of technology inside. The design is very typical of Alienware. The magnesium alloy body gives a sense of sturdiness and the mini laptop overall reminds you of games like Alien vs Predator or maybe Starcraft.

For around $850 (the basic configuration starts at $700) you'll be getting an Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 1.3Ghz, 1GB Nvidia GT 335M graphics, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB SATA II hard drive, Bluetooth and Windows 7 as the operating system. The 11.6 Led backlit screen on the M11x with a native resolution of 1366 x 768 gives great color reproduction and depth. Audio quality is way above average for a laptop the size of a netbook. The volume is loud enough and it the speakers don't produce much distortion.

Moving on to a very important detail for the gamer, the keyboard, all I can say is that its the same good quality that Alienware got it's customers used to. Key spacing is great and tactile feedback is optimal. Because of the great Led backlighting you'll use these mini laptops for gaming all through the night. I maybe should mention the touch pad but I won't. Why? Since this is a gaming device there is absolutely no way any gamer in their right mind will use this notebook, on the go or not, without a high quality mouse. As a conclusion the Alienware M11x is mind blowing. It offers great performance and a great design for a price way under what anyone ever expected for such an extraordinary piece of technology.
